Flower Decoration

We all tend to become tensed when we have people visiting our homes. Throwing a party at our own house becomes a hectic work for us. We plan for days about whom to invite, what to serve them but the most important thing which becomes our major concern is our home, it should look so prim & proper that our heads are held high in front of the guests, we tend to buy new show pieces, new curtains, new cushion covers & the lists goes on. This not only increases our tension but also a problem for our wallets.

Why not this time let’s simplify this and try to make it more vibrant & colorful, fresh & energetic. This time, don’t invest in a brand new showpiece or furniture; get some beautiful flowers for the occasion.

We all have some little ideas how to fill a vase with beautiful flowers, so this time makes it happen.

At the entrance to welcome your guests you can have a large vessel filled with water & put lots of marigold and Lilies on it. You can have a large vase as the center of attraction and fill it up with cut flowers like roses, orchids, chrysanthemum & other flowers; at different places you can place more flowers.

Your house will look like a beautiful flower garden, & the ambience would be so serene that not only your guests will enjoy it, you will also feel great.
To add more to your creativity you can paint your own vase with good acrylic colors & feel free on any design you like, if not else go for the plain glass vases, it looks good too.
So be creative & have fun to decorate your house for any occasion you want to.

Mogra- The Summer flower

Summer is near the corner & the most visible flower to be seen is the Mogra, or known as Arabian Jasmine in English. At all the flower stalls, the hawkers sitting on the footpath with their basket to the florists near your place, one can find mogra garlands. This little white bloom is known for its intoxicating fragrance which lifts your mood.

At our Kolkata home my mother had planted several  mogra plants &  before the onset of summer the little plants would start flowering, every evening the mogra buds would start blooming & fill the breeze with its mesmerizing fragrance.
Kolkata summers are very hot & humid, during the day it’s too hot but  nights are a bit breezy & warmer.  Every evening those little white blooms would fill the summer breeze with its fragrance & perhaps made it a little bit cooler. Before the onset of summer my mother would rush to the nearest nursery to get herself a new plant, so that we could experience more flowers.

Here in Mumbai my mother buys  mogra garlands to offer to her deity, more or less every summer days she makes a visit to the florist to get  new fresh flowers. Speaking of my experience here I see so many women wearing mogra garlands or only a flower on their hair as accessories. They wear it everywhere whether they are going for a function, to their workplace etc… while travelling in a train early morning sometimes I find women wearing the flower in their hair, in that crowded train, where all women quarrelling   for a place to stand, the sweet smell of the flowers ease out a little bit of tensed environment out there.

My first experience with flowers

Flowers! they have always fascinated me, right from my childhood, when a small rose bud in my mother's garden had made wait for days to see it bloom & the bright red colour had filled my heart with joy. my fascination for flowers has been imbibed by my mother. Her small flower garden where she grew roses, hibiscus, marigolds, dahlias & various other flowering plants would ,make me skip my homework and run to the terrace early winter mornings to see how many new flowers have bloomed and get lost in their beautiful fragrances. Each occasion she used to fill our house with flowers and the house looked something new, fresh.
My mother loved her garden like anything and was too possessive about them. but her possessiveness was in vain. Each winter many squirrels would gather in her garden and nibble away the buds and my mother furiously would run around them to scare them away but in vain.

Alas! these are all my memories, when we left Kolkata for Mumbai, we couldn't save our garden, the potted plants were gifted to neighbors & friends.this didn't stop my mother & I to stop getting flowers. Here in Mumbai either there is a occasion or not, we get flowers for ourselves. The roses may not have such beautiful fragrances but their redness still fills my heart with joy

Flowers for all special moment

:)
bye for now
